HVAC electrical, condensate, and controls before startup checklist

A focused pre-startup checklist for HVAC branch circuits, disconnects, grounding, control wiring, thermostat configuration, condensate routing and overflow devices, pumps, auxiliary heat, interlocks, sensors, labels, and inspection status before energization.

Circuit and disconnect information matches every equipment nameplate

Critical item

Voltage, phase, minimum circuit ampacity, maximum overcurrent protection, and disconnecting means should be coordinated.

Power and low-voltage wiring, grounding, protection, and enclosures are complete

Conductors should be terminated and protected according to listings and adopted requirements.

Thermostat, sensors, zones, staging, lockouts, and backup heat have a documented sequence

Use when electrical, drainage, and control work is split among trades or needs a separate hold point before startup. Do not open energized equipment, handle refrigerant, defeat safety controls, or enter unsafe attics or crawlspaces. Require licensed or qualified HVAC and electrical work where applicable.
