The air barrier is continuous at exterior assemblies and difficult transitions

Critical item

The designated air barrier should be continuous, durable, and connected across walls, ceilings, floors, rim areas, chases, soffits, garages, cantilevers, attic access, and penetrations.

Insulation type, thickness, R-value, density, and installation quality match approved documents

Critical item

Insulation should fill intended cavities without avoidable gaps, voids, compression, misalignment, or loss of contact with the air barrier.

Attic, roof, baffles, ventilation, access, and equipment clearances are coordinated

Critical item

Roof and attic assemblies should preserve intended ventilation or unvented design, insulation depth, drainage, fire and combustion clearances, and service access.

Materials are dry and required fire, draft, and ignition protections remain complete

Wet materials should not be enclosed, and air-sealing or insulation work should not defeat required fireblocking, draftstopping, fire-resistance, ignition barriers, or listed penetration systems.

Pipes, ducts, wiring, boxes, drains, vents, and controls remain visible, undamaged, and serviceable

Required energy or insulation inspection, corrections, certificates, and photographs are complete before drywall

Drywall release should follow applicable inspection and documentation requirements and preserve evidence of concealed thermal work.

Use after rough-ins are approved and thermal-enclosure work is installed but before drywall or other interior finishes cover walls and ceilings. Exact energy-code, climate, assembly, combustion, fire, and program requirements depend on local adoption and the approved project. Do not enter unsupported excavations, walk incomplete framing or roofs, open energized equipment, operate pressurized systems without authorization, or interfere with required inspections. Use qualified inspectors and licensed trades for inaccessible, structural, electrical, gas, mechanical, environmental, or life-safety conditions.
