The exhaust path should minimize resistance and use permitted durable materials and transitions.
The concealed duct should remain airtight, cleanable where required, stable, and compatible with structural and fire assemblies.
Exhaust should discharge outdoors without recirculation, water entry, blockage, unsafe clearance, or damage to adjacent surfaces.
High exhaust or tight construction should not create unsafe depressurization or defeat designed ventilation.
The duct should be approved and documented before concealment, with a defined final test after hood installation.
Use after the complete kitchen exhaust path is installed but before cabinets and finishes conceal it. EPA guidance supports exhausting cooking pollutants outdoors; exact duct, airflow, makeup-air, and combustion provisions depend on locally adopted requirements and the selected hood. Do not energize exposed work, open or test gas piping, pressure-test plumbing, operate incomplete appliances, enter unsafe framing or attics, or modify structure without authorization. Licensed trades and the AHJ control required tests and approvals.
