Headwall and chimney flashing should use a coordinated water-shedding system appropriate to the geometry, width, slope, masonry condition, adopted requirements, and approved details rather than relying on exposed sealant as the primary defense.
Unit condition, curb height, orientation, deck opening, membrane, sill, jamb, head flashing, diverters, fasteners, and roof-covering integration should follow the exact product, roof slope, and approved installation method.
Each penetration should use a compatible listed or approved flashing assembly, correct opening and support, shingle-style membrane integration, required clearances, and a durable treatment of fasteners and upper and lower flanges.
The project record should identify the location, product, sequence, and completed condition of concealed flashings and any reused component, special repair, manufacturer detail, or inspection approval.
Use this checklist after flashing components and membranes are installed enough to inspect but before roof covering or adjacent finishes conceal the water-shedding sequence. It does not replace a masonry, structural, skylight, or manufacturer specialist inspection. Do not walk a steep, wet, fragile, icy, or otherwise unsafe roof. Use ground-level observation, attic access where safe, dated contractor stage photos, permit inspections, and a qualified independent roof inspector when direct access is needed.
