Kitchen island utilities and anchorage before finish checklist

A pre-finish kitchen-island checklist for approved location and clearances, floor and structural support, anchors and blocking, cabinet fastening, heavy countertop and overhang support, plumbing and approved venting, electrical feed and receptacle strategy, gas or cooking equipment where applicable, duct or downdraft route, floor penetrations, fire and moisture sealing, appliance service and removal, seating safety, photographs, inspection approval, and release before flooring, cabinet skins, countertops, or trim hide the work.

Island location, orientation, finished size, work aisles, seating, doors, appliances, and circulation match approval

Critical item

The installed footprint should preserve intended operation and required clearances after panels and countertops.

Floor structure, cabinet base, anchors, blocking, seams, posts, brackets, and countertop support transfer loads safely

Critical item

Anchorage and support should match floor construction, cabinet system, countertop weight, overhang, appliances, and approved structural detail.

Sink, dishwasher, disposal, water treatment, drainage, venting, cleanouts, shutoffs, and leak protection are serviceable

Critical item

Island plumbing should use an approved vent and drainage method and remain accessible inside the final cabinet configuration.

Electrical, gas, cooking, downdraft, controls, receptacles, disconnects, and protective devices are coordinated

Critical item

Feeds and devices should match selected equipment, locally adopted requirements, listing, service access, and floor construction.

Floor penetrations, fireblocking, vapor and radon layers, moisture protection, nail plates, flooring, and finish interfaces are restored

Critical item

Island work should not leave soil-gas, moisture, air, fire, pest, or fastener vulnerabilities.

Trade inspections, tests, anchor evidence, dimensions, concealed photographs, and countertop release are complete

Critical item

Later finishes should not cover unresolved utility or support work.

Use after island structure and concealed utilities are installed but before permanent finishes and countertops restrict access. Island requirements vary sharply with appliances, sinks, seating, floor structure, and locally adopted rules. Do not energize exposed work, open or test gas piping, pressure-test plumbing, operate incomplete appliances, enter unsafe framing or attics, or modify structure without authorization. Licensed trades and the AHJ control required tests and approvals.
