ETA anchor installation before cover

A 10-25 minute EU-focused check of ETA or CE-marked post-installed anchors before cover, fixtures, grout, insulation, fire protection, or finishes hide hole preparation, embedment, setting, torque, and records.

Confirm anchor matches design and intended use

Critical item

Post-installed anchors must match the project design and the anchor's assessed intended use. For concrete anchors, Eurocode-based design and national annexes may apply; for masonry or other substrates, national rules, ETA scope, and manufacturer data control the detail.

Check CE, ETA and batch records

Critical item

Where the anchor is covered by a harmonised route or European Technical Assessment, CE marking and a Declaration of Performance identify declared performance for the intended use. The ETA/EAD and manufacturer instructions define the installation conditions that must be followed on site.

Verify layout, spacing and edge conditions

Critical item

Anchor spacing, edge distance, embedment, fixture hole size, and base material thickness are design values from the project, ETA, and manufacturer data. Do not apply generic dimensions; use the approved schedule and drawings.

Inspect drilled hole diameter and depth

Critical item

Hole diameter, drilling method, minimum embedment, effective depth, and permitted tolerances come from the ETA and manufacturer instructions for the exact anchor and substrate. Core drilling, hammer drilling, diamond drilling, and hollow-drill methods are not interchangeable unless the product instructions allow it.

Confirm hole cleaning and condition

Critical item

Hole cleaning is a performance-critical step for many post-installed anchors, especially bonded anchors. The required blow-brush-blow sequence, brush size, moisture condition, temperature range, and equipment are product-specific and must follow the ETA and manufacturer instructions.

Check setting, cure and temperature

Critical item

For bonded anchors, injection volume, discard length, nozzle mixing, embedment depth, gel time, cure time, and substrate temperature are controlled by the ETA and manufacturer instructions. For mechanical anchors, setting method, sleeve expansion, torque or displacement requirements are likewise product-specific.

Verify torque and final installation record

Critical item

Final torque, tightening method, washer use, fixture contact, inspection frequency, and proof testing are defined by the project specification, ETA/manufacturer instructions, and national practice. Do not invent torque values or acceptance criteria.

Hold nonconforming anchors for review

Damaged, misplaced, under-embedded, contaminated, unrecorded, or substituted anchors should be reviewed under the project's nonconformance process. Repair or replacement must follow the designer's instruction, ETA/manufacturer guidance, and national requirements.

Use this checklist after post-installed anchors are drilled and installed, while holes, anchor positions, labels, setting method, and records can still be checked. It is not a full structural design review.

There is no single EU building code for anchor installation. The project structural design, national rules and national annexes, ETA/EAD route where applicable, CE marking, Declaration of Performance, manufacturer installation instructions, and site quality plan control the work.
