Posts, beams, headers, joists, rafters, and bearing walls should match the approved plans and IRC framing requirements. Cuts, holes, and notches must stay within IRC limits or be repaired by an approved detail.
IRC R302.11 requires fireblocking in concealed wall, floor, ceiling, soffit, chase, and stair spaces so fire cannot freely move through cavities.
Rough openings should match the window or door manufacturer's instructions, remain square, and include proper sill, header, jack stud, and flashing preparation.
NEC 300.4 and 334 require cable support and protection where wiring is close to framing faces or vulnerable to screws and nails.
Use this checklist after the framing, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and low-voltage rough-ins are substantially complete, but before insulation and drywall. It is written around common US residential practice and should be compared with the approved plans, local amendments, and the authority having jurisdiction.
