Basement must be dry before finishing. Verify no active water infiltration. Interior drainage or exterior waterproofing should be addressed first.
Framing must leave a gap from concrete walls. Rigid foam insulation or spray foam recommended against concrete. Vapor barrier placement critical.
Every bedroom in a finished basement requires an egress window. Minimum opening of 5.7 sq ft (5.0 sq ft at grade), minimum 24" height and 20" width.
Basement electrical must meet code. GFCI protection for unfinished areas. AFCI protection for habitable spaces. Adequate lighting and outlets required.
Basement flooring must account for moisture from concrete. Vapor barrier required under most flooring types. Floor must be level within tolerance.
