Lighting Installation Inspection

Fixtures must be properly mounted to electrical boxes, correct type for location (damp/wet rated where needed), and switched conveniently.

1. Check every fixture is securely mounted (grab and pull gently — should not move)

2. Test every switch — correct fixture responds, no delay or flickering

3. Verify 3-way and 4-way switches work from all locations

4. Check fixture type for location — damp-rated for bathrooms, wet-rated for outdoors

5. Verify recessed lights have proper IC rating if near insulation

6. Check dimmer switch compatibility with LED bulbs (no flickering or buzzing)

7. Verify hallways and stairs have switches at both ends

8. Check that rooms have a switched outlet or overhead light at the entry

- Loose fixtures (improper box or mounting)

- Flickering with dimmer (incompatible LED bulbs)

- 3-way switch not working from one location

- Wrong fixture rating for location (fire or shock hazard)

- No switch at room entry (code requires switched light or outlet)

- Recessed lights without IC rating near insulation (fire hazard)
