Carpet installation quality
Critical itemCarpet must be properly stretched (no wrinkles), seams well-bonded, and pad installed correctly under all areas.
Standard
Carpet must be properly stretched (no wrinkles), seams well-bonded, and pad installed correctly under all areas.
How to check
1. Walk the entire carpet — feel for wrinkles, bumps, or lumps
2. Check seams — should be barely visible with no fraying or gaps
3. Verify seam direction — should run toward the primary light source
4. Check stretching — push your shoe across the carpet, should feel taut, not loose
5. Check transitions at doorways — properly tucked under transition strip
6. Verify carpet is tight at walls (tucked behind baseboard or at tack strip)
7. Check for pattern matching at seams (if patterned carpet)
8. Feel the pad underneath — should feel consistent (no missing areas)
Common problems
- Wrinkles (carpet not properly stretched — will need re-stretching)
- Visible seams (poor seaming technique or wrong seam direction)
- Loose carpet (not properly power-stretched onto tack strips)
- Missing pad under some areas
- Pattern mismatch at seams
- Fraying at edges or transitions
