Attic insulation assessment

Critical item

Per IECC (International Energy Conservation Code), attic insulation must meet local R-value requirements (R-38 to R-60 depending on climate zone). Uniform coverage is critical — even small gaps allow heat loss that melts snow and creates ice dams. Insulation must not block soffit vents. No gaps around penetrations (lights, pipes, ducts).

Air leak sealing

Critical item

Per IECC and Energy Star guidelines, air sealing is the single most effective ice dam prevention measure. Warm air rising through ceiling penetrations melts snow on the roof. All penetrations through the ceiling plane must be sealed: recessed lights, plumbing vents, electrical boxes, attic hatches, ductwork connections, chimney chases, and top plates of interior walls.

Ventilation

Per applicable building codes and industry standards, Ventilation must meet quality and safety requirements. Follow manufacturer specifications and local code amendments for specific requirements.

Ice

Per applicable building codes and industry standards, Ice must meet quality and safety requirements. Follow manufacturer specifications and local code amendments for specific requirements.

Heat

Per applicable building codes and industry standards, Heat must meet quality and safety requirements. Follow manufacturer specifications and local code amendments for specific requirements.

Gutter

Per applicable building codes and industry standards, Gutter must meet quality and safety requirements. Follow manufacturer specifications and local code amendments for specific requirements.
